Sparrows
Joy of my life turned numb
Cold as the icy breaths that cloud my sight
As I step, as I step
Again and again
Down these grey roads
Laid out at my frozen toes
Fly away, fly away hopes
To where the sparrows rest their wings
Somewhere green with azure lighting sprawled above
And crowns the tips of their wings when in flight
But take my heart, the hollow stone,
Light it inside with the same sweet power
And maybe the dust will blow out of the attic in my skull
Clearing the way for cognisance to take place
Spreading like ivy vines through the grout
In between the bricks of those attic walls
Like the speed of a smile on a dreary day
Oh dreary day
Take me away
Numb
Numb like you never knew my name
And I step, and I step
Down the way, down the way
Laid through out my day
Come back, come back say
To where you sparrows once did sleep
Here where all is metal and stone and flickering lights
And crown your wings in flight once more
And take my heart back
Now returned to the state it was born
Lit inside with the same raw power
And oh joy
Fleeting, maybe returning?
Are you on those wings?
Do you miss me?
